Former Ghana international Christian Atsu has been trapped under the rubbles in the wake of the earthquake that has killed approximately 1,000 people.
Fears are mounting over the former Chelsea and Newcastle United winger’s safety following reports that he has been trapped under the rubbles with Hatayspor sporting director Taner Savut.
Authorities say they are intensifying search for the duo. VOLE, reports that search has been continued for the 31-year-old winger and Savut as well as translator Emre. Burak Oksuz, a colleague of Christian Atsu at Hatayspor has been rescued from under the rubbles.
On Monday morning, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the southern part of Turkey while a second one with 7.5 magnitude struck at 13:30 local time.
At least 1,000 people have been reported dead while a further 5,300 are said to be injured. Several reports in Turkey say Christian Atsu’s club Hatayspor has been heavily affected.
Christian Atsu was the lone goal scorers for Hatayspor when they beat Kasimpasa at home. The winger tweeted after the game, “Important win for the team. Happy to be on the scoresheet”.
