Christian Atsu found alive and receiving treatment after earthquake

Ghana and former Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu has been reportedly found and pulled out of the rubbles from which he was trapped. He is receiving treatment at a hospital according to the report.

A statement from the Ghana Football Association confirmed the news of the former FC Porto winger’s rescue. “We’ve received some positive news that Christian Atsu has been successfully rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building and is receiving treatment,” the GFA tweeted.

Respected Turkey sports journalist with the VOLE, also confirmed the news of his rescue. He tweeted, “Christian Atsu has been pulled from the wreckage alive!”

Christian Atsu was among a number of other persons from Hatayspor who were trapped under rubble after a devastating earthquake on the early hours of Monday morning and a follow-up one later in the day. Hatayspor’s sporting director Taner Savut who was also trapped is yet to be rescued.

Thousands have been reported dead with several thousands also being treated at hospitals for various degrees of injuries. The disaster struck Turkey’s Gaziantep province close to the Syrian border.
