Cecilia Dapaah: let’s probe sources of the cash – Ato Forson

Estimated read time 2 min read

Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson has called for investigations into the stolen cash of the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources Madam Cecilia Dapaah. The former Deputy Finance minister said the source of such huge sums of cash must be investigated as it cannot be overlooked.

He took to social media to express his views, joining many other Ghanaians in questioning the source of the huge stack of cash that was stolen from the minister by her two house helps. The minister caused an uproar when she hauled two of her house helps and three other accomplices before an Accra Circuit Court for stealing $1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghanaian Cedis in cash from her. An 18-year-old Patience Botw and 30-year-old Susana Agyei are accused of stealing the money as well as other personal belongings of the minister and her husband Daniel Osei Kuffour.

According to the NDC leader in Parliament, due to the “magnitude and gravity of this situation, it is essential that an immediate and impartial investigation be carried out to ascertain the source and legitimacy of these funds”.

Ato Forson said the investigation is necessary because Ghanaians “deserve nothing less than a government that serves their interests with honesty”. He thus believes a probe would help establish that and satisfy the interest of the citizenry.

Dear Friends,

Recent revelations have come to light regarding the discovery of an astonishing amount of money in the private residence of a Ghanaian Minister.

The sum in question amounts to $1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghanaian Cedis.

We cannot overlook such a serious development that has the potential to undermine the very principles of probity, accountability, and transparency in our governance.

Given the magnitude and gravity of this situation, it is essential that an immediate and impartial investigation be carried out to ascertain the source and legitimacy of these funds.

I strongly urge the concerned Minister to voluntarily step aside from her duties until the relevant state institutions have conducted a thorough and independent investigation into this matter.

The people of Ghana deserve nothing less than a government that serves their interests with honesty and dedication.
