Black Stars coach Chris Hughton has lost his father Willie Hughton according to the Ghana Football Association Communication Director, Henry Asante Twum. The former Republic of Ireland full back was appointed head coach of the Black Stars last month.
According to Asante Twum, “Chris had to stay in the UK because he lost his dad and needed time with his family and plan the burial service. That’s why he’s not been to Ghana yet,” he said as quoted by 3Sports.
The former Tottenham Hotspurs and Newcastle United manager is thus expected in Ghana later next week to assume his duties with the national team.
“We expect Chris in Ghana next week if everything goes according to plan. We are constantly engaging on his unveiling, media engagement, and build-up to the games,” Henry Asante Twum revealed.
However, the exact date for his unveiling is not specified but he together with his assistant coaches, George Boateng and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani will all be unveiled on the same day.
“He is working, Chris and his assistants will be unveiled together. When he arrives we will communicate the date and venue for his unveiling and then use that as part of the build-up to the game against Angola. There will also be squad announcements, details of the contract, and the targets set for the new technical team,” Asante Twum stated.
