Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo, Nii Lante Vanderpuye and the Atta Mills family slammed Koku Anyidoho for orchestrating confusion at the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial on July 24. The NDC lawmaker said the former aide to the late president allowed his ego and hatred for John Mahama to lead him to cause chaos on a day reserved to honour the memory of the former President.
Mr Vanderpuye’s outburst came after Koku Anyidoho exceeded the time allotted for him at the Asomdwe Park where the NDC was scheduled to also hold a memorial service. Koku Anyidoho’s time overrun into the time for the NDC and the Atta Mills Memorial Heritage.
“You see, you and I all agree, even though in Ghana, we value the extended family system. There’s always the immediate family or the nuclear family. So as to dispute about whose family or who has the right to somebody, it cannot be questioned because the first point of call is the immediate or the nuclear family before you go to the extended family.
“So what happened was uncalled-for, unwarranted and unexpected, but I will put it all at the doorstep of the government which is allowing this ‘buffoon’ of a guy called Anyidoho…the way he’s behaving, he’s playing a ‘buffoonery’.”
“His arrogance and ego, he doesn’t have the humility that is supposed to be exhibited by anybody who worked under President Atta Mills. All he’s doing is nothing, it’s about his hatred for President Mahama, it is nothing else.
“All that he tried was to do something to disrupt the programme he knew President Mahama and the NDC, the national executives were going to be present.”
Brother of the late Professor Atta Mills, Samuel Atta-Mills who was enraged by the actions of Koku Anyidoho labelled him a “coward”, reminding him that he is not related to the family.
“You’re not related to this man and anybody could come here and celebrate him. He [J. E. A Mills] is for the country so why would you want to clash with us? And as a coward, as he is, he ran away and left the people here; the fake family over here.
Atta-Mills alleged that Koku Anyidoho’s disrespectful attitude towards the family is because of the political powers backing him. He, however, warned that his time would expire and there would be nowhere to hide.
“When they advise you and you don’t listen, this is what happens. But Koku should know that he’s hiding behind a political power. Every political power in this world has an expiration date. A day will come that the political power he is hiding behind will expire,” he told JoyNews.
Meanwhile, the sister of the former President, Mercy Araba Ahema Quarshie, has warned that there will be consequences for Koku Anyidoho who she alleged tampered with the grave of the late President without the family’s knowledge.
“I want to make it clear to everyone that Koku Anyidoho has stepped on the wrong foot by tampering with our brother’s grave without our knowledge. That is unacceptable and now we are going to deal with him because it is a taboo in our family to do that,” Mercy Araba Quarshie warned.
She also labelled the people Koku Anyidoho brought with him to his wreath-laying ceremony as “fake family members”. Mercy Araba Quarshie took particular notice of an 80-year-old woman who poured libation at the event while claiming she gave birth to Professor Atta Mills.
“People with Koku Anyidoho, pretending to be the real relatives of Atta Mills. That is never true. We don’t know them anywhere. It was so disgusting to find an 80-year-old woman pouring libation and hitting her thigh saying that she gave birth to Atta-Mills. I was wondering if she gave birth as a baby,” Mercy Araba remarked.
