The Atidefe Foundation has announced the distribution of 3,500 free coconut seedlings to farmers and residents within the Akatsi South Municipality as part of its continued commitment to agricultural transformation and economic empowerment. The distribution exercise (Phase Four) is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 26th July 2025 at the Akatsi RC Park, beginning at 9:00 a.m. prompt.
Founded on Monday, 7th November 2022, by Hon. Thomas Yao Atidefe, the Foundation has made significant strides in promoting sustainable development across Akatsi South. Hon. Atidefe, a former Presiding Member of the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly and current Assembly Member for the Torve Electoral Area, is also recognized as one of the three individuals shortlisted by President John Dramani Mahama in 2025 for the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) position in the municipality.
Since its establishment, the Atidefe Foundation has implemented several community-based initiatives in agriculture, education, and youth development, with its coconut seedling distribution project being one of the most impactful.
The Foundation believes that promoting coconut cultivation will not only create sustainable employment for farmers, particularly the youth, but also contribute to the municipality’s agricultural value chain and economic resilience.
In addition to the seedling distribution, the Foundation will officially launch the Youth Empowerment Forum 2025, a new flagship programme aimed at fostering leadership, innovation, and civic engagement among young people in the municipality.
The forum will feature interactive sessions with seasoned professionals in governance, academia, and entrepreneurship, providing participants with practical knowledge and mentorship opportunities.
The event, which is open to the public, is expected to draw participation from students, youth groups, community leaders, and development partners.
To ensure transparency, accountability, and efficient implementation of its programmes, the Atidefe Foundation operates under two key executive bodies:
The Atidefe Foundation National Executive Committee (AFNEC)
The Atidefe Foundation Functional Executive Committee (AFFEC)
These bodies coordinate and oversee all activities of the Foundation, ensuring that projects are aligned with its core objectives.
The announcement of the upcoming distribution has been met with widespread enthusiasm from the local population, particularly farmers who see the initiative as a game-changing intervention in the municipality’s agricultural development.
“The Foundation’s work is timely and transformational. Many of us have started seeing results from earlier phases, and we are excited about what lies ahead,” said one beneficiary in the Akatsi South Municipality.
As the Foundation prepares for this next phase of its intervention, it continues to reinforce its mission of driving grassroots development and fostering opportunities for future generations in Akatsi South.
