Andre Ayew: I’ve always been a fan of the Ghana League

Black Stars skipper Andre Ayew has revealed that he has always been a big fan of the Ghana Premier League and he’s been following the league. The ex-Nottingham Forest player said he has always watched it while a child and is happy that he is able to watch the league on his phone.

“I’ve always, not from today, since I was a kid I have always been a fan of our Premier League. When we were growing up, the stadiums, the cities, everything….we will be waiting for Saturday for a big game to come. Whether it is Hearts [Accra Hearts of Oak] and Kotoko, Oly [Great Olympics] and Hearts, all those types of games. I grew with it in me so it is a league I personally admire.

He added that as a young boy, he dreamt of also playing in the Ghana Premier League one day.

Andre whose father Abedi Ayew starred in the Ghana Premier League with Real Tamale United, said the Ghana Premier League is a great one and is progressing.

“I think Ghana football is progressing. When we’re able to watch the games on my the phone. To watch RTU, that is another important club for me. It is important and I feel that being able to see that I am personally able to follow what happens in our football and that is great….for me being outside [Ghana] being able to follow the league the way I want to.

“If I don’t have training and I don’t have a game and there is a game I want to watch, I want to watch RTU, I want to watch Hearts, I want to watch Kotoko, I want to watch any team, I am able to watch it and that is a great achievement,” he said.

Ayew also added that improvement is a good platform for the players in the local league to expose themselves to the world.

According to the former Marseille attacker, the league generally is progressing as well as the infrastructure and he hopes that more of it comes in the coming years. He urged all to offer their support to the league and help it get to greater heights.

Andre Ayew is part of the latest Black Stars squad in camp preparing for the penultimate match of the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers. Ghana will face Madagascar on Sunday, June 18, 2023, ahead of the final match in September against the Central African Republic. The Black Stars lead Group E with 8 points after winning two and drawing the same number of the four matches played.

Madagascar has already been dumped out of the qualifiers after claiming just a point out of the possible 12. However, a good result for the Barea would be a huge blow to Ghana who are hotly chased by the CAR and Angola in second and third places respectively.
