Manchester City’s authoritative win over German giants Bayern Munich on Tuesday has left manager Pep Guardiola uncomfortable according to the Catalan. Pep Guardiola supervised the onslaught of the Bavarians at the Etihad with goals from Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland.
However, reacting to the win on Tuesday night, Pep Guardiola said the 3-0 success has not left him comfortable as he feels emotionally destroyed.
“It was not comfortable. Emotionally I’m destroyed. I have 10 more years [on me] today. It was so demanding game,” Guardiola said.
Despite the win, Pep says the ability of Bayern Munich to turn things around cannot be doubted and his charges need to be ready to see this out. He said the immediate focus is to give everyone a break and then prepare for Leicester City over the weekend.
“Now I have to relax, a day off for the guys, prepare for Leicester. I know exactly what you have to do there. If you don’t perform really well they are able to score one, two, three. I know that. The players know that. It’s an incredible result, but we have to do our game with huge, huge personality,” he said as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
Reflecting on the match, he said, “They had the chances to score goals”. “A corner, a header, we try to analyse many things when it’s little details. I had the feeling that other teams in the previous season had less chances than Bayern and scored goals.”
Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola has explained why he took Kevin de Brunye off during the tie. He told reporters it was a tactical decision to inject more energy into the team. “I saw the performance and took the decision, in that moment we needed extra energy from Julian. I am here to take the decisions and it is my biggest quality.”
