A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former minister under President Kufour has asked those in the flagbearer race that of the party to stop claiming it is their turn.

His comments are targeted at Alan John Kyeremanten and Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku who have been using the tag “adru me so” as their campaign message for the party’s upcoming flagbearer elections.

According to Dr Anane, Alan Kyeremanten and Dr Apraku’s claims which are based on the fact that they have contested the position in the past and lost to Akufo-Addo and former President Kufour respectively do not hold grounds.

He said, if the party would tow that line, then Dr Mahamudu Bawumia can also lay claim to it being his turn because his father was a founding member of the NPP. He said Bawumia’s father’s Nothern People’s Party is what merged with the United Party to form the now NPP so Bawumia effectively also have the same claim to the “Adru Me So” claim by his contenders.

Bawumia’s father Mumuni Bawumia who was a Member of Parliament under Kwame Nkrumah was a member of the Nothern People’s Party and later the United Party from which he defected to the Convention People’s Party a year after Ghana’s independence.

According to Dr Anane as quoted by 3news, “It is about competence and your good works. People’s belief that you’re the one who can do a good job, not Aduru me so”.
