With just under two weeks to the NPP’s primary to elect a Presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, the twists are getting more intertwined. Money as usual has become the central figure as candidates run out of ideas to convince voters, instead opting to buy votes. Kennedy Agyapong who has been accusing another leading contender, Dr Bawumia of using money has also joined the gang of money sharers.
The campaign manager for Assin Central lawmaker Kennedy Agyapong, Kwame Owusu revealed that the Kennedy Agyapong campaign team has joined Bawumia in giving monies to delegates. He said the maverick lawmaker’s team has now also resorted to paying delegates for their votes.
When commenting on whether his team has paid delegates, he said, “Oh yes! We are only saying that if we are inducing, we should do it in such a way that people don’t see it as buying them…that they are being encouraged to do that.”
Defending their decision to share money, Kwame Owusu said Bawumia has given so much money to people to influence their decision. This he said is despite the fact that the government could not meet some of its financial obligations to groups such as NABCo and school feeding.
“He has given some inducements which are far too high and people look at it and they are very dissatisfied as to things that we have not been able to pay, such as NABCO. Recently we were even owing so much money as regards to school feeding and the rest. So when people see the amount of money that is moving that they claim they don’t have, people become suspicious.”
