Chelsea manager Graham Potter has said he expects to be fired if things don’t go well for the club on the pitch. This follows a massive overlay of funds across two transfer windows that saw the arrival of many high profile names and talented prospects.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s clash with West Ham today. “My relationship has been consistent with [the owners]. We understand where we both are, where we see the team. We are working really well to keep improving,” Potter told reporters.
He added, “The expectations have always remained the same, a team that ultimately wins. We know there is opportunities to make changes to the team when the window is open. I’m not stupid. If the results aren’t what this club should get, then I understand, if I’m the reason for it then that’s the job”.
Chelsea spent spent over £300 million during the January transfer window following up with the summer spend which brought in Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibably, Rahim Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to revamp Thomas Tuchel’s squad shortly before the German was axed from the role.
The London club have been knocked out of both domestic cups and remain only in the champions league with their performance in the league not being anything close to impressive as they languish in ninth place on the table. They have only accumulated 30 points from 21 games and have lost two of their last league games and drawn the same number with only one victory in that span.
