The Ghana Education Service, GES, has sacked the assistant headteacher of Nkwatia Presby Senior High School in the Eastern Region. This follows the reports of an alleged assault of a student by the headteacher in charge of academics in the school.
A statement signed by Cassandra Twum Ampofo, the Head of the Public Relations Unit of the GES said the headteacher has been relieved of his duties. It said the student is receiving “medical care and counselling,” adding that the Eastern Regional Directorate of the GES has commenced an investigation into the incident.
“The attention of Management of Ghana Education Service (GES) has been drawn to a disturbing picture of a student of Nkwatia Presby SHS assaulted by the Assistant Headmaster (Academics) of the school.
“The GES unequivocally condemns the actions of the Assistant Headmaster, who is supposed to ensure that students and teachers operate in a safe school environment. The Eastern Regional Director of Education is liaising with the school authorities and the relevant law enforcement agency to investigate the matter.
“Meanwhile, the Assistant Headmaster has been relieved of his duties, and the student is receiving medical care and counselling.
“Ghana Education Service assures the general public that we are committed to ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for all students across the country.
