From sales girl to CEO – Theresa Ayoade shares her story

Stories of from grass to grace has been shared by several people the world over. However, little has always been known of some of the successful people. One such successful people, the Chief Executive Officer of event house, Charterhouse, Theresa Ayoade has recounted her own humble beginning.

Miss Ayoade revealed during an interview Roselyn Feli of Joy Prime that she prematurely ended her education in the United Kingdom and returned to Ghana due to financial difficulties.

According to the established entrepreneur and CEO of Ghana’s music award organizer, Charterhouse, she had a job as a sales girl in Adabrakra and begun life with it.

“I went to the UK to pursue my degree course in economics and my parents were sponsoring me at that time. But my father ran into a few financial challenges, which made it difficult for him to continue paying my fees or sponsoring me. I had to stop. My education was truncated,” she revealed.

Then she knew she had to hustle for herself and that made her make the next decision. She called a friend who offered her sales girl role.

“I called up a friend…he said, oh I have a shop. You can come and sit in my shop. I said okay. It’s better than sitting at home. The shop was selling lighting fittings. So I was a sales girl in Adabraka and that is how I started my career in Ghana,” Miss Ayoade explained.

Revealing that she had dreams of becoming a banker in the future, she said she had to let go off those plans and reimage her career. She then opted to pursue a career in the media. That landed her a managing role at Luv FM. She later got promoted to the position of a promotions manager at Joy FM, a sister station of Luv FM.

“I was the only girl in the sales team and when the opportunity came. I was the one who was promoted to go to Luv FM as the Sales and Marketing Manager. I worked in Kumasi for about two years and I came back to Joy FM where I was promoted to Promotions Manager”.
