Ghana is set to experience loading shedding also known as Dumsor soon according to the Electricity Company of Ghana. The power distribution company announced that “due to the maintenance works being carried out by the Ghana National Gas Company at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant, power generation will be affected”.
According to the joint statement released by ECG and GRIDCo, there will be a shortfall of 150 megawatts in power generation as a result. The situation per the statement will last till April 7, 2023. It said there will be “minimal” power interruption with that period starting from Friday, March 31.
Following that announcement, the ECG released a timetable with a list of the affected areas categorized into groups A, B, C and D. Each of the groups is scheduled to experience power outages between 6 PM and 11 PM on selected days during that period.
In the statement containing the timetable, the company said, it “wishes to inform the general public that, due to the maintenance works being carried out by the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) at Atuabo, there is a power generation shortfall.
“In this regard, please find below a load management schedule from Thursday, 30th March to Friday 7th April 2023, between 6.00 pm and 11.00 pm.”
In the message to customers, the ECG said, “We call on our customers to bear the inconvenience with us while the Ghana Gas Processing Plant undertakes this all-important maintenance activity”.
Some of the areas that will be affected by the power outages on Friday include areas under group B such as Mirabake, TDC Shops, Comm 2 Police Station, JOMEF and Okro Garden will have no lights. Vodafone, Comm 9 Market, MEDASS, TOR Flats and Women’s Hospital will join them. Parts of Comm. 11, HFC Estates, John Grey Estates, ARS Church, Parts of Devtraco, Movelle, European Market, Naval Base, Leisure Hotel, Nungua Zongo and Nungua Traditional Council all in the Tema enclave will have no lights on Friday night.
Areas such as Dominase, Nkotumso, Breman Nkwantwima I&II, IRS, Part of Magazine, Tafo New Road, Tafo Nhyiaeso, Tafo and Tafo Zongo. Others include Westley Girls Secondary School, Odo Ef3, Abetim, Yaw Nkrumah, Nkyereboaso and Asotwe. Part of Fawoade, Part of Asendua, Ahwiaa Newsite, Ahwiaa Overseas, Ahwiaa Adabraka, Part of Medoma and Mamponteng are included. Agona, Kumawu, Mampong, Effiduase, Ejisu, Aboabo and Asawasi all under group B in Kumasi will be without lights from 6:00 PM to 11: 00 PM on Friday.
