Ghanaian musician Dr. Paul Azunre better known by his stage name Dr Pushkin yesterday, March 16, 2023, thrilled patrons at the ongoing SXSW festival in Austin, Texas.
Backed by a strong contingent, the scientist cum rapper dolled out lyrics from his tall list of conscious rap songs to thrill the audience in the parked venue.
Dr. Pushkin took to the stage with AZA, Texas-based rapper Aggie, and the inventor of tongue-twisting in Twi rap, Quata Budukusu, and others to entertain the audiences with back-to-back hit tracks from his debut album.
A video of the performance of the Ghanaian which was streamed on Facebook Live captured him wowing audiences for well over half an hour.
Some of the songs from his debut Outlandish album that he performed were “Lies” featuring TeriWiizi, “Forgive them” featuring Aggie, “Need You” featuring Ataman Nikita and Budukusu, and “Alien” featuring Kromanten among others.
Background of Dr Pushkin and SXSW Music Festival
Dr. Pushkin is a Ghanaian rapper who does a form of rap he terms “Conscious rap“. He has been in the music industry for years now and in January this year released his maiden album that is still receiving raving reviews in the industry. His style of music speaks to the conscience of society trying to expose the darkness that has covered society for so long yet ignored.
South by South West simply known as SXSW Music Festival is an annual international music festival in Austin Texas that brings together artists, industry professionals, and music lovers from around the world to make connections, elevate their careers, and celebrate the magic of live music – from legendary performers to the most exciting new talent. It is the largest of its kind in the world with over 1,500 artists performing across 77 stages from 13-18 March this year.
