Following the court’s decision to dismiss the defamation suit by the CEO of Tiger Eye PI, Anas Aremeyaw Anas against Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the former has reacted, calling it an “unfortunate travesty of justice”.
Justice Baah ruled that “The statement of the defendant was substantially factual, and therefore justified. It could not have succeeded in actually defaming the plaintiff. Some of the long list of words made by defendant and tendered as exhibit C were capable of defamatory meanings, but none was proven to have actually defamed the plaintiff”.
However, in a statement in response to the court ruling, Anas Aremeyaw Anas claimed the court ruling was unfair and justice has been denied.
According to the statement by Tiger Eye PI, “The court established that Mr. Agyapong indeed defamed Anas but in a bizarre twist concluded that the so-called documentary “Who Watches the Watchman” was an absolute justification thereby absolving Mr. Agyapong of any liability”.
“We find the decision of the court an unfortunate travesty of justice and very inimical to the administration of justice and fairness. If for nothing at all, Mr. Agyapong made an allegation of murder against Mr. Anas,” the statement continued.
Adding, “There is absolutely nothing contained in the said documentary which alludes to the commission of murder or an allegation of the commission of murder by Mr. Anas. Thus, that documentary cannot provide any justification for an allegation of murder in the wildest imagination”.
Anas and his Tiger Eye PI have, however, pledged to continue the “fight against corruption in the Ghanaian society in service to God and country”.
