Americans have made their choice between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. The two were in a supposed keenly contested race to replace Joe Biden on January 20, 2025 but what looked like a close contest turns out to be a smooth sail for the outspoken Republican candidate.

Polls closed on Tuesday and by Wednesday morning nearly all States have called their results. As updates trickled in, Donald Trump has raced to a commanding lead to ensure a return to the White House is inevitable.

The former President has so far earned 276 votes while Kamala Harris totaled 223 with five states yet to call their results. To become President, one needs 270 votes from the electoral college. Donald Trump and his Republicans flipped three battleground states; Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Georgia.

Of the 5 uncalled races, Donald Trump leads in Nevada, Michigan, Alaska and Arizona while Harris leads in Maine. The combined votes from those 5 are 39 and with Trump expected to sweep through four of those, the final gap could be massive than expected.

In the Senate elections, the Republicans took control, flipping Ohio and West Virginia to ensure a smooth sail for the party. The Democrats thus lost the slim majority they previously held thanks to those two flips.

Meanwhile in the House, the Republicans previously held a slim majority and is likely to do so again this time. A party needs to hold 218 seats to win the house, GOP had 220 while the Democrats had 212. As results trickle in, GOP leads with 200 to the Democrats 175 with 5 and 2 flips respectively.
